What is my Therapy approach?
It is essential to point out that the aim of any therapy sessions undertaken with me is never to enter into a passive, 'I fix you - you need to fix me' relationship.
I always do my best to teach my clients how to care for themselves, not depend on me. you are the main responsible for the success of your rehabilitation.
Some people believe they are 'broken' and need someone else to 'fix' them. In the rehab process nothing could be further from the truth
My therapy approach are simple: to help you bring your brain and body back into balance again and create an environment where healing can begin.
This can be a slow or a fast process and depends on the individual client's case and history.
No therapist can promise or guarantee you results. That's arrogance and ignores the true nature of healing. My role is always to support and give you the tools and resources that you need to FEEL, MOVE and PERFORM better.
What should I wear to sessions
It's essential that you wear clothes that you feel relaxed and comfortable in for your session and that will allow you to move freely - there is a private washroom/toilet where you are welcome to change your clothes if you wish.
I recommend wearing workout-type clothes that are loose-fitting and comfortable, e.g. a t-shirt and sports bra along with shorts or tracksuit bottoms is ideal. All of the physical assessments are performed barefoot.
Please no denim jeans, skirts, or business attire as this significantly limits any assessments.
How long and frequent are session visits?
Your first session visit is scheduled for 60 minutes. This gives us ample time to begin your journey by looking at any significant medical, injury, and movement history that may be important to consider during your sessions.
Many pain and movement problems have their original cause in a client's history, so this information must be gathered and investigated.
During your first session, we'll be exploring and assessing areas including:
- Medical/Injury History
- Neurological assessments
- postural and movement screening
- orthopaedic testing
- Neuromuscular assessment
- Effective explanation of the findings
- Treatment
- Counseling
This critical session data and information create a tailor made approach to help you feel and move normally again.
Subsequent follow-up session visits are for 45 minutes to enable us to check your progress and work on improving your movement further together.
There is a required commitment that sessions are scheduled and attended regularly - on average, every 1-2 weeks. This is to ensure momentum, motivation, and progress are maintained.
How long does it take to feel and move better?
Progress is usually noticeable after the first visit, though for some individuals, it can take a few more sessions to notice significant changes to how they feel and move.
Generally speaking, the older and more complex the issue, the longer it may take to improve.
Some issues take time. As I often tell my clients - It took a while for your body to feel and move like this, and it probably didn't happen overnight, so it may take time to feel and move normally again.
What is your session cancellation/rescheduling policy?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. You will not be charged for a session you cancel or reschedule with more than 24 hours notice.
The entire session fee will be charged to clients who cancel or reschedule a session with less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend their appointment.
If you are sick or unwell, or any unforeseen emergency occurs, these are considered if you have to cancel or reschedule a session at short notice.
